I’m Jenn Purkis, proud owner of X&IN Design Inc.

I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I have always been drawn to the aesthetics of the spaces around me. This interest led me to the fashion business where I honed my love for pattern, color, textures, and design. After staying home for a few years to look after my kids, my career path led me to home interiors. My love for style steered me to projects where I started staging and organizing spaces to maximize their sales value. Naturally, the next step for me was designing and renovating interior spaces for my clients to enjoy. Currently, I have been staging and decorating houses for about fourteen years.

Over the past couple of years, I have noticed that clients now really understand the importance of spending some energy and money to showcase their home’s best potential. Real estate is a competitive market and staged decluttered homes are expected by buyers. With the emergence of social media, visuals can be shared widely with potential buyers, this requires homes to be inviting and stylish. Also, buyers are aware through the internet about emerging styles and trends all over the world. Another industry change I have noticed is that people are nesting more and they want their home to speak to them. It should not only be pleasing in style but also in function because a home needs to work with the people that live there.

My clients have also transformed into creative individuals with time. I always enjoy meeting with them and talking about our joint vision. Once I know the exact direction my client wants to take, putting together the vision is the fun part. Owning my own business gives me the freedom I could not find elsewhere, and it is so rewarding when I know that my ideas and vision have made a family fall back in love with their home. My business philosophy revolves around style and functionality, both of which are equally important because clients need their space to work for them once my job is done.

As an individual, I believe what sets me apart from the others is being honest with my clients. I make sure all my work is done as planned through trustworthy contractors that will respect the client’s homes. I never push a style philosophy on any client. I will ensure comfort zones are always respected.

I attribute my success to my client’s satisfaction. Word of mouth has been the main driving force behind my new business. On the other hand, my most satisfying my moment was being featured in Canadian Living magazine with an article about the emerging trend of using wallpaper. However, the most significant milestone for me was when my own home was featured in an article discussing wallpaper.

When I am not at work, my main hobbies include spending a lot of time with my four boys. We snowboard all winter and enjoy time around the city in the summer. We spend a lot of time exploring Canada. I have a vivacious book club as well with a group of very dynamic and intelligent women. We read and discuss amazing books and enjoy fun field trips too. We recently had a fun night of ax throwing, where I would like to add that I came out the champion that night.
